India has agreed to loan Cambodia $57 million for irrigation and electricity projects, said Foreign Affairs minister Hor Namhong following a meeting between the two countries’ prime ministers last Wednesday.

India will loan Cambodia $37 million for the construction of an irrigation system from Stung Sva Slab to Kampong Speu and $20 million for electricity linkages from Kratie to Stung Treng, Namhong said.

India is now spending $5 million to assist Cambodia in the renovation of Ta Prom temple and has promised further support to repair other temples.

Prime Minister Hun Sen has appealed to India to invest in the development of direct flights from India to Siem Reap and highways to connect India, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia.
